Citizens Police Academy
The Waupun Police Department Citizens Police Academy is an annual 8-week program facilitated by the Waupun Police Department. The Citizens Police Academy is open to all eligible citizens of the City of Waupun.
The primary goal of the Citizens Police Academy is to further strengthen the relationship between the Waupun Police Department and the community it serves. The program curriculum includes basic components and principles of law enforcement, involving both classroom instruction and practical hands-on experience. Waupun Police Department personnel, as well as other professional field experts instruct the Academy.
All citizens of the City of Waupun are eligible to apply for acceptance into the Academy. Acceptance into the Academy is based upon completion of individual background checks, and the applicant's potential for application of learned material in the field of Law Enforcement. The program is free of charge to all accepted applicants, as all class materials are provided.
Subjects covered in the Academy include, but are not limited to: Defense and Arrest Tactics, Firearms, K-9 Unit, Crime Scene Investigation, Traffic Stops/OWI, Traffic Accident Investigation, Court/Prosecution, and Dispatch/Communications. A graduation banquet and certificate presentation is held for all graduates at the conclusion of the Academy.
