K-9 Team

In May of 2010 K-9 Yako began his tour of duty with the City of Waupun Police Dept. after the unfortunate passing of K-9 Agon. K-9 Yako is a German Shepherd, born in Germany, and was purchased by Larry Filo of Steinig Tal Kennels in Campbellsport, WI. The K-9 program was completely funded by donations from local and area businessses along with donations from private citizens and the Dodge County Drug task Force.  With the acceptance and generous donations this allowed to make the K-9 program a reality for our community.

Officer Trevor Kreitzman was selected to be Yako’s handler.  In April of 2010 Officer Kreitzman and K-9 Yako attended a 4 week K-9 certification class.  K-9 Yako is certified in narcotics detection, criminal apprehension, officer protection, and tracking.  K-9 Yako is primarily used for illegal drug detection and is often deployed on traffic stops to conduct “sniffs” of vehicles suspected of containing illegal drugs.  Yako is trained to aggressively indicate (bite, bark or scratch) at the odor of illegal drugs.

K-9 Yako was born January 26, 2008 and resides with Officer Kreitzman at his home in the City of Waupun.
